The City and the Stars likewise presents a new perspective but this time it’s mankind that is unfamiliar. While all of the novels (at least the ones that I’ve read) focus on man’s compulsion to explore the stars, man’s relationship to those stars is very different in each. The City and the Stars is a rather unusual book and makes me marvel, yet again, at the breadth of Arthur C. It takes one man, A Unique to break through Diaspar’s stifling inertia, to smash the legend and discover the true nature of the Invaders.’ But then, as legend had it, The invaders came, driving humanity into this last refuge. Once, it held powers that rules the stars. ‘Clarke’s masterful evocation of the far future of humanity, considered his finest novel… Men had built cities before, but never such a city as Diaspar for millennia its protective dome shutout the creeping decay and danger of the world outside. Usually science fiction is a genre I’m tempted to pass over. The Dreamers came to me at exactly the right time. Have you ever had a dream that was so real that you had difficulty orienting yourself to a wakeful state? Have you ever pondered the meaning of your dreams? Have you attempted to make sense of your dreams? Do you think dreams can predict the future? Or have you wondered about the passage of time while you sleep? Have you even been asleep briefly but had a dream that seemed to last a long time? Have you experienced dreams about people who are no longer alive? Thanks #netgalley and #randomhouse for my free copy of #thedreamers in exchange for an honest review. The Dreamers is a story about the people affected and their reactions and actions. ![]() The town is quarantined and the National Guard is called in to enforce the quarantine and monitor supplies. In my books I take an honest look at our quirky and often bizarre behaviour in society, challenging the status-quo we accept as unchangeable questioning and pushing the boundaries we set ourselves - and those that have been set for us. ![]() From this, my first book On The Other Hand - The Little Anthology of Big Questions was born. I began to question everything I knew, accepting nothing at face value, writing down these questions and the thoughts surrounding them. It was around this time when I began searching for meaning in my life that I had a profound experience - a realisation that we’re all connected, we’re One. Many years ago I wrote my autobiography - probably more as therapy than anything else but life continued happening to me and I got to thinking: what good will this story do, isn’t there enough misery in the world without me adding to it by writing more? I subsequently burnt it. ![]() ![]() ![]() With Found, Margaret Peterson Haddix begins a new series that promises to be every bit as suspenseful as her Shadow Children series - which has sold more than 41/2 million copies - and proves her, once again, to be a master of the page-turner.
